Hello! I’m alive! 😀 Well, sort of. My hiatus is still semi-ongoing, but I decided to check in and share something tasty I had last week or so, because I rather miss blogging and Facebook of all things gave me a guilt trip about not posting regularly. :p It’s not really smoothie bowl weather at the moment but I persevere in the face of yumminess, so I’ve been taking a lot of hot showers after lunch or breakfast these days just to get my body temperature back up. The things we do for food… Continue reading
It’s something of a law of nature: our eyes are always bigger than our stomachs (no matter how hard we try) in the holidays. So much baking, faffing and sighing, and then the hard, stale reality of excess that sits in the fridge for a week or two to silently judge us. Or, you know, it’s tough to work out portion ratio per person when everyone treats the holidays differently: some as a challenge of excess, and others as a season of torture and self-control so they don’t come out the other end in stretchy pants.
Moreso than my issue with clothes that don’t fit in January is the leftovers that get out of control. Waste makes me sad, because what we usually get rid of is actually edible. This is a little guide to help you plot what you can do with the never-ending crumbles of what you’ve been scoffing.
YAY! It’s finally here – a giveaway of my favourite brand of goodies: NuNaturals 😀 You may have seen it in the ingredient list of most of my recipes and there’s a reason for that. It is the most versatile range of products to give flavour and sweetness to my daily and special treats without the dread of sugar rushes and diabetes, and apart from that just tastes fabulous! I’m really digging these Vegan Mofo themes! I have so many ideas of what I want to do, but the only thing lacking is time (as always). I did a somewhat impromptu training session yesterday and am presenting the second half today, and then it’s off to a restaurant to meet up with the in-laws and my former colleague and pal Marmiet! 😀 In between all this madness I’m trying to get assignments done but urgh, motivation nil. Hence something plain, easy but wacky for today’s theme: something blue.
Crazy mode again! 😀 I was thinking of a super quick way to get some deliciousness in during the afternoons before embarking on the power walks around the neighbourhood a friend and I try and take during the weekdays, and this came up. I’m more often than not out of bananas and there are always apples for Man-thing’s daily fruit rations (since chocolate does not and should not count), so yum! The chilly drink with the warm cake bits… oh yes please!
Wait, what? That’s right. Spicy hot cross bun flavoured smoothie. I’m not always in the mood for an actual hot cross bun (ok, lies, I’m lazy), so this is the best way to ensure all us smoothie freaks get the flavour sensation of one of my favourite Easter treats in our usual form. Am I driving you crazy? Blog world, you drive me insane! I’m nestled down in the southern hemisphere where it’s almost on the brink of the chilly season and I get cranky because the northern hemisphere is living it up with fruit salads, vegan ice-cream and taunting talk of picnics in the sun. So for this post I’m going to do it your way and go with something chilly, and then on Friday I’m going to go wild and post a hot cross bun hot chocolate recipe…stay tuned! 😀 Continue reading
Some of you might be confused by this post, knowing that I’m all the way in (currently) sunny South Africa, far from the horrors of the cold that’s swooshing across the northern hemisphere. Well, Man-thing can attest to the fact that I wear sweaters in the middle of summer and currently sleep under three blankets, so there is never such a thing as true summer for me.Having the veteran’s badge for just having survived a real winter, and now rigorously plodding through something just as chilly (at least to my mind), I figured I could whip up and share my favourite new tasty warm mango smoothie bowl and 4 tips for outsmarting the cold. And because you know I can’t sit still verbally or otherwise, I also have 6 smoothie and smoothie bowl round ups and recipes 😀
I admit I’ve been super lazy to post of late, seeing that I’ve been lacking in the inspiration department. I had my January posting schedule all sorted out in November already, but with my work chopping and changing my hours I’ve been a bit morose. The one thing that’s sure to pep me up is fresh ingredients, especially from a garden. Last week I got a monster zucchini that totally rocked my socks (will post soon!), and yesterday whilst Man-thing was gallivanting in the garden he called me out to pick figs from our tree – they actually ripened!! 😀 😀 Ergo, bask in my first experiment with my very own garden-fresh figs: fig newton smoothie!
Today’s munchie is a rather simple one, yet super delicious and it hits the spot. As you might have seen, I am very much into smoothie bowls at the moment, because it means I can eat my smoothie and feel fuller for longer, so this smoothie bowl is a celebration of winter tastes and spices enjoyed in the blaze of summer (as is the case at the moment in South Africa). Also, I’ve seen this survey around and thought I’d share some info, just to show that I’m not as depraved in taste as all my exclamation marks would have you believe (or am I?).
I still have some precious fresh cherries left, so I decided to spoil myself rotten yesterday afternoon when I got home from work. My papaya isn’t ripe yet and we have a few apples lying around, so the result was this really fresh and filling smoothie that just tasted heavenly.
