Hallo! I’m sort of here, just to share a daily ritual I’ve been indulging in thanks to the icy nonsense of winter. Seriously, I told myself I wouldn’t complain when we had non-stop heat waves in summer, but there’s nothing quite like the feeling that you’ll never be warm again. Ah well, this breakfast is creamy, easy, and protein-packed: possibly the only reason to wake up and get going in the morning!I must admit oats by itself doesn’t do much to keep me full. It must be because I have a notoriously stretchy stomach, but it doesn’t matter how I soak and top it, I end up famished three hours later. I guess that’s normal but there isn’t always time to sit and munch in a lordly manner at work, so I’ve had to step up the game a little with big results. Man-thing has the benefit of sleeping in that extra hour or so since he works from home, but the speed of this breakfast compared to my summer smoothies means I’ve been able to set my alarm to snooze an extra half hour: bliss! One can use pre-soaked oats for the base to cut down even more time, or else just use the soaking time to drink some coffee or tea. 05h00 is my personal time with no-one but cats to bother me as I troll the internet, so it’s fun to have seasonal rituals.
Ingredients (serves 1):
- 1/2 cup GF oats
- 2 tsp psyllium husk
- 1 cup boiling water
- 2 slightly heaped TBSP of protein powder**
- 3/4 cup boiling water
- 3 drops NuNaturals Liquid Stevia Vanilla
- Cinnamon to taste
- toppings as desired
- Pour 1 cup boiling water over your oats, cinnamon and psyllium husk.
- Stir well and let it soak for at least 5 minutes (or overnight).
- In a mug mix your protein powder, boiling water, and Stevia very well, then pour over the oats and mix.
- Let it sit for a few minutes more, then serve with toppings of choice.
** My brand of protein powder, Just Soy, may vary from what you use in terms of how thick it can be. I like to make a rather thick but still liquid consistency so that it bulks up the oat mixture. Test out the consistency/amount of water required for your own brand of choice.
I don’t think there’s a great way to take shots of this, because it is basically murky, but tasty murk! I should probably just hush up and lay down some sweet words like “creamy” and “filling”, which is what it actually is. You could see up top just how much cinnamon I use as a minimum, which really gives the flavour to the meal, other than the crazy life-changing NuNaturals NuStevia Liquid drops, which have been my daily companion for almost four years now! ❤ I must admit I got twitchy time-wise and didn’t wait my usual span of time for the oats to soak, but even then the bit of crunch is tasty. I often sprinkle more cinnamon and often ginger when stirring everything together, because why not. One of these weekends I’m going to try a pinch of cayenne with some NuNaturals Cocoa Syrup on top, because life is short. 😉Oh yasss… creamy delight! Seriously, if there was already this sass about oats doubling in size when soaked, then adding protein powder mix to it and stirring that all together for a wait is bound to satisfy the most gluttonous of guts, like mine 😀 I still have half a box of passion fruit lying around, so it makes for a happy punch to the tastebuds to contrast the porridge. Goji berries and I are totally lovers at the moment, so they belong in pretty much everything. I went large and bought a tiny pack at big cost, but no regrets! Sometimes I’m pretty amazed at the sheer magnitude of the toppings I see on Instagram, but there is an admittedly crazy amount of fun to be had, splashing stuff everywhere on a bowl. And now I’m going to take a few minutes to share one of the loves of my life: Atlas. Big, beautiful, bouncy, panda bear boy ❤ As some of you may know, he came into our lives at the beginning of May after I fell in love with him at the shelter where I was doing my Saturday shift. With so many cats one often overlooks a few or you get to known them in cycles. Well, I finally got to truly met Atlas and was instantly smitten, taking photos and videos and just sighing deeply for a week, desperate to try and find a way to go pick him up without disrespecting Man-thing’s “patience is golden” way of life. Man-thing went himself and actually adopted Atlas for us (!!) and ever since then he has been a never-ending joy. He’s playful like a kitten; warm and snoozy like a true lap cat; gentle like a retired rugby player; and just so utterly beautiful. I call him our fat panda now because we may have gone a bit wild in the beginning and fattened him out too well… whoops. Still, so thankful to have this boy as part of our family! ❤ Fat cheeks! ❤
